Biography:

GOLDRING, Caroline Bamber, formerly HANNAM (1802-70: ancestry.co.uk)

She was born on 31 Aug. 1802 at Buckland, Hants., the youngest of ten children of Thomas Hannam, ironmonger, and his wife Mary Bamber, who had married in 1782. She was baptised in the Catholic Chapel, Portsea, on 16 Aug. 1804. She married William Goldring (1870-1879), an Excise Officer, on 11 June 1822 at St. James’s, Paddington. They had one son born in 1824 and baptised in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in 1832. By 1851 they had moved to Hampshire. In 1852 their son emigrated with his family to Chicago and the 1861 Census records his parents living alone with an eleven-year-old house servant, Anne Hopkins. After Caroline’s death at Phoenix Green, Hartley Wintney, Hants., in 1870, Anne is recorded as the adopted daughter of William Goldring in the 1871 Census.
