He was born at South Leith, the son of George Glass and Janet (Black) Glass. He married Christian Bicket in 1806 and they had at least two sons. He is listed in the Edinburgh Annual Directory (1817-29) as a painter. (ancestry.co.uk 9 Jan. 2019)
