Author: Glas, Alexander

Biography:

GLAS, Alexander (b 1730s? d 1750s?)

He was likely the son of the Rev. John Glas (or Glass), founder of the Glassite sect, and Katherine (Black) Glas, and may have been born at Tealing, Angus, where his father was minister before his secession from the established church. He died by drowning at the age of 22, leaving his poem unfinished. Robert Morison of Perth undertook to publish it and, later, to issue a second edition. However, Alexander would have died decades before the poem first appeared.  He is mentioned in the ODNB entry for his father. (BAM; ODNB for John Glas 16 Feb. 2019) SR
