Author: Gilley, William B.

Biography:

GILLEY, William B. (1785?-1830: ancestry.com)

pseudonym Bob Short?

There is surprisingly little personal information available for Gilley, given that he was the founder of a bookselling and publishing firm that was active in New York from about 1814 to 1832. The company published many eminent contemporary British writers--Scott, Byron, and Moore among them. Gilley was not the author of Olio II, which is sometimes attributed to him. He must have married; he had at least one child, a daughter who married a graduate of Yale Law School. (WorldCat; ancestry.com 4 Jan. 2019)
