GIFFARD, James (1770-1849: ancestry.co.uk)
He was the eldest son of William Giffard of Quy Hall, Cambridgeshire, and his wife Elizabeth Bones. He was baptised in Cambridge on 28 Jan. 1770; possibly he was born in 1769 but no record has been located. He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1786 and earned his BA (1791) and MA (1794). He was ordained in 1792 and served as curate at Whaplode and Wrawby in Lincolnshire and at West Meon in Hampshire before being appointed vicar at Wootton, Lincolnshire, in 1814. In 1808 he married Anne Swan, a widow whose birth name was Goodwin. They had one son. Giffard was appointed vicar at Cabourne, Lincolnshire, in 1821, serving there and at Wootton until his death.
