Author: Gibbs, Phillips

Biography:

GIBBS, Phillips (fl 1803)

pseudonym Isaiah Eiland

There are no other recorded publications by this writer under either his name or his pseudonym. The only evidence of his location and indeed of his existence are ms notes in the copy of his book in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society: the signature "Phillips Gibbs" on p. 12 and a note on the title-page: "Jacob Kingsbury's property, purchased of Philip [Phillips] Gibbs, the author, at Fort Wilkinson in Georgia on the 27th August 1803, price 50 cents." From the text it can be inferred that he was a Universalist in religion and a Jeffersonian Republican in politics. (AAS catalog) HJ
