GIBBS, Ann (c. 1743-1805: Monthly Magazine)
Ann Gibbs of Lamberhurst, Kent, edited A Selection in Prose and Verse (1803) but she also contributed poems and some prose passages. One of her poems, “The Invitation; With a List of Authors,” dates from 1793 and is a request to Miss S--- (probably Anna Seward) for a contribution to the book. Very little is known about Ann Gibbs but she died in Aug. 1805 and the death notice gives her age as 62. She was the wife of John Gibbs of Lamberhurst; he died in 1823. His will, dated 4 Apr. 1821 and proved on 10 July 1823, left his estate to various nieces and nephews. The surnames of his relatives, including Lashmar and Sinderson, appear in the subscription list to A Selection.
