Biography:
GARRETT, Samuel Raymond (1812-76: Burke)
He was the second son of William Garrett of Janeville (Kilgaran), Co. Carlow, and his wife Margaret Raymond of Co. Kerry. His father was High Sheriff of Carlow. Nothing is known about his education and his name does not appear in the lists of Trinity College Dublin graduates. Zella, and Other Poems is dedicated to Lady Harriet Kavanagh and one of the poems is about the Kavanagh home, Borris, which was in Co. Carlow. He never married and lived in the family homes in Janeville and Kingstown (now Dún Laoghaire). At the time of his death in late Dec. 1876, he was living on Lower Gardiner Street, Dublin, where he was found deceased by a servant on Christmas morning. (B.
