Biography:
GALLOWAY, Robert (1752-94: LPS)
The elder brother of George Galloway (q.v.) he was born at Stirling to George Galloway and Janet (Cameron) Galloway and baptised on 20 June 1753. He moved to Glasgow and worked as a shoemaker but poor health meant that manual labour was difficult for him. After his marriage to Isabella Wilson in about 1773, he became a bookseller and is said to have run a circulating library in the Gallowgate which his widow kept up after his early death. He and Isabella had children but details are wanting. (LPS; George Galloway, “Memoir,” The Battle of Luncarty); ancestry.co.uk 24 June 2019) SR
