FYFE, Archibald (1772-1806: Poems and Criticisms)
He was born on 11 July 1772 and baptised on 23 July at Paisley, the son of John Fyfe and Helen (Morison) Fyfe. He received little formal education and was largely self-taught. On 1 June 1793 in Paisley he married Isabel Adam; they had five children. Fyfe was unsuccessful in a business concern and then contracted a fatal illness. No record has been located for his death but the preface to his posthumous collection of writings states that he died on 23 May 1806. His death left his wife and children destitute.
