The attribution by HL of Poems: written by an Officer in the Indian Army to "Captain French" has been repeated in library catalogues but not substantiated by any evidence, and although a few Captain Frenches appear in military records, none of them seems to fit the right timeframe. Nor did any other publications appear under this name. Given the drubbing by at least one reviewer ("There is no poetry in his volume"), the author was wise to remain anonymous.
