Author: Forrest, Michael

Biography:

FORREST, Michael (b c. 1773)

The preface and text of his Travels through America provide as much reliable biographical material as is available. He emigrated from Ireland three months before his eighteenth birthday, then travelled from Newfoundland to Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and so on eventually to Charleston SC. He settled (at least for a time) in Philadelphia, where this poem and his more political works The Times (1795) and a prose pamphlet attributed to him, The Political Reformer (1797), were published. He might be the  Roman Catholic Michael Forrest who was baptised on 5 Nov. 1782 at the church of St. Nicholas Without, Dublin; his parents were James and Anna Forrest. Nothing is known of his later life. (findmypast.com 3 Sept. 2025) HJ
