FLEMING, John (fl 1778)

His poem takes its title and style from Oliver Goldsmith’s (q.v.) 1776 poem addressed to Lord Clare. Fleming’s poem is to Sir Thomas Taylor, Baron Headfort, who was made Earl of Bective in 1766, and thanks him for a gift of venison from his Virginia Park lodge in Kells, County Meath. Fleming's poem addresses Sir Thomas in familiar terms, suggesting that the men were well-acquainted socially. Nothing more is known about the author.
