Biography:

FISHER, Jonathan (1768-1847: WBIS)

He was born in New Braintree MA to Jonathan and Catherine or Catharine (Avery) Fisher. His father, an army officer, died during the Revolutionary War and an uncle, Rev. Joseph Avery of Holden MA, supervised his education. He graduated from Harvard in 1792 and was ordained as the Congregational minister of the church at Blue Hill ME in 1796; he spent the rest of his life there and is buried in the Blue Hill cemetery. He married Dolly Battelle; they had at least three children who predeceased their parents. Fisher was versatile: besides being a serious scholar of Hebrew, he was a good painter and wood-engraver.
