Biography:

FINLAYSON, William (1787-1872: Scottish Poets Recent and Living)

He was born at Pollokshaws, the son of Alexander Finlayson and Janet (Glen) Finlayson. He worked as a weaver before being employed at Leith as an excise officer, a position he held for forty years. His wife was Jean Young; they had five sons, and he died at Leith in the home of one of them. His book is dedicated to the Honourable Sir John Maxwell of Pollok. (Alexander G.
