Author: Finch, C.
Biography:
Finch, C. (fl 1823?)
"C. Finch" is named on the title-page as the author of The Gamut and Time-Table in Verse, an introduction to music and mathematics for the youngest children which was frequently reprinted from the 1820s to the 1860s. No other works for children or adults are attributed to this author, nor is anything more known of him or her. Although some library catalogues identify hthe author as Charlotte Finch or as Lady Charlotte Finch (1725-1813)--governess to the children of George III and Queen Charlotte until her retirement in 1793--the latter attribution is not supported by biographers. It is possible that "C. Finch" is either a publisher's fiction or a deliberately misleading pseudonym.
