Biography:
FINCH, Barbara, formerly WARING (1756-1832: ancestry.co.uk)
She was baptised on 23 March 1756 at Alton, Southampton Meeting (Quaker), the daughter of Jeremiah Waring, a clothier, and his wife Barbara Pack. She married John Finch on 23 March 1780 in Wandsworth and they had five children. He was originally a mealman (a dealer in flour or grain) in the family business but later became a mustard manufacturer. Her father left her independently wealthy at his death in 1791 and made generous provision for his grandchildren. They lived at Duncroft Cottage in Staines (10 bedrooms, library, stables, outbuildings, domestic quarters), not far from Finch’s business. John Finch died there in 1820, aged 62. She died 19 March 1832, aged 76. Their son Jeremiah continued to run the business and left over £30,000 at his death in 1871. The other children were left independently wealthy.
