Author: Fea, John W.

Biography:

FEA, John W. (1791-1835: findmypast.com)

The title-page of his only book proudly announces the author's credentials as DCL Oxford and Alternate Preacher at the (fashionable) Portman and Quebec Chapels. It might have added, domestic chaplain to the Duke of Sussex--an appointment of 1825--but that would have been undiplomatic given the dedication of the work to the Irish Marquess of Clanricarde. The dedication is dated from 4 Park Terrace, Regent's Park--then as now a very good address. The fact that the records of birth, marriage, and death are surprisingly scanty for a man of such standing can be accounted for probably by his Irish background. John Worthington Fea was born in Dublin, where his parents had married in 1790 and where his father John was a Church of Ireland clergyman. His mother's maiden name was Woods. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin (BA 1812, MA 1815, LLB and LLD 1823). He appears to have attempted to open a "grammar and classical" school in Belfast in 1819, but by the early 1820s he had moved to England. His Oxford DCL was attained through Magdalen College. He died in London, leaving as the administratix of his will Henrietta Fea of 25 Wardour St., Soho, presumably his wife.
