Biography:
FAWCETT, John (1768-1830: ancestry.com)
The only son of Winifred (Lambert) and Christopher Fawcett, he attended University College, Oxford (matric 1786, BA 1790, MA 1793) and took orders but never became a parish priest. His father was Recorder of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, his uncle Richard Fawcett Vicar of Newcastle and Prebendary of Durham. John Fawcett married Mary Anne Bates of Newcastle on 28 Jan. 1795; they had four sons and four daughters. He was employed as Clerk of the Newton Hall estate in Co. Durham, where he died on 13 Jul. 1830. He was buried on Jul. 21 at St. Margaret's, Durham. Hilton Castle, with historical notes, is his only recorded publication.
