Biography:

Everett, David (1770-1813: WBIS)

A second cousin of Alexander Hill Everett and Edward Everett (qq.v.), he was born in Princeton MA to David and Susannah (Rolfe) Everett. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1795 as valedictorian, read law and was called to the bar in Boston, then practised for a few years in Amherst NH. His play Daranzel was performed once in 1798 and twice in 1800; he later wrote a two-act play, Slaves in Barbary, which is included in The Columbian Orator (1810 and later editions). He married Dorothy Appleton in 1799. Most of his writings are journalism: he founded the Boston Patriot in 1809 and edited The Pilot in 1812. In 1813, for the sake of his health, he moved to Marietta OH where he founded a newspaper, the American Friend, but died of tuberculosis in the same year. (DAB; Appleton)
