Biography:

EVANS, Robert Maunsell (1808-89: ancestry.co.uk)

He was the second son of Eyre Evans of Ash Hill, Kilmallock in County Limerick, and his wife Anna Maunsell. He graduated BA from Trinity College Dublin in 1831 and was ordained deacon and priest in 1833. He became curate successively at Killaloe and at Bandon, County Cork. On 6 Feb. 1835 he married Deborah Purdon; they had no children. They went abroad for the sake of his health and he was in charge of the English church at Geneva before moving to Leghorn and Sorrento. On his return to Ireland he was curate at Ballyhea in 1847 and was appointed Reader of Saint Colman’s Cathedral, Cloyne. In 1863 he earned his MA from Trinity College Dublin. Evans became Archdeacon of Cloyne and Rector of Gortroe and Dysert in 1862, serving until his retirement in 1884.
