ELLIOTT, William (1803-31: ancestry.co.uk)

He was probably the William Elliott born on 6 Mar. 1803 and baptised on 13 Apr. at St. Katherine Creechurch, City of London, the son of William Elliott and his wife Sarah. His mother’s maiden name was probably either Walls or Clarke. He enlisted as a cadet in the Bengal Army in 1824 and arrived in India on 5 Apr. 1825. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 24 Feb. 1826. He served with the 26th Regiment of Native Infantry in Arakan in the First Burma War (1825). On 28 May 1831 he was made Acting Adjutant in the 27th Regiment of Native Infantry at Hussingabad. He died there on 29 Nov. 1831 and was buried two days later. Edwi and Elgiva (1832), his only known work, was published posthumously and was probably edited by a fellow officer.
