Author: Egerton, M.
Biography:
EGERTON, M. (fl 1821-30)
pseudonym Olio Rigmaroll
He was an artist whose satirical drawings—including the illustrations in Airy Nothings—were often engraved by George Hunt. However, almost nothing is known about him and the British Museum’s online biography of him points out that even “Egerton” is no more than a guess. He signed his works ME and sometimes as “Ego.” His other publications include Humorous Designs (1824), Day’s Journal of a Sponge (1824), Collinoso Furioso (1825), Here and There over the Water (1825), and The Matrimonial Ladder (1825 and 1830). The illustrations in the latter form a panorama opening out to an eight-foot strip. (M. Bryant and S.
