Author: Edwards, Miss

Biography:

EDWARDS, Miss (fl 1776-80)

DWS identifies her as probably Christian Edwards, who was from Stirling and the author of a ballad on the battle of Flodden Field. Her Miscellanies has a lengthy list of subscribers including William Edwards of Pilmuir who took seven copies. One copy went to Walter Scott’s father. The book includes the first and second parts of her prose drama, Otho and Rutha (1780). Ancestry.co.uk yields no conclusive information. A Guide to Irish Fiction, 1650-1900 [2006] suggests she may be Anna Maria Edwards (q.v.) but this seems unlikely. (DWS)
