Biography:
EDWARDS, John (1750/1-1832: ODNB)
He was the eldest son of James Edwards of Old Court, near Bray in Co. Wicklow, and his wife Anne Tennison. On 2 Feb. 1780 (not 1782) he married Charlotte Wright at St. Peter's, Nottingham; they had three sons and two daughters. They may have lived in Nottingham for a time where his The Patriot Soldier was published in 1784. He was an Irish patriot who served in the Irish Volunteers, becoming a Lieutenant Colonel. In March 1797 he raised the Bray yeoman infantry and served as captain; he was opposed to the imposition of martial law in Mar. 1798, an attempt to crush growing unrest in advance of the Rebellion of the same year. He died at Old Court near Bray in Mar. 1832; his age in death notices is given as 81. His other publications are pamphlets, including Interests of Ireland (1814).
