DUVAL, John Edward (fl 1828)
His surname is also given in catalogues as Du Val. No biographical information has been located. He is identified on the title page as the author of “The Battle of Navarino, a poem.” This 1827 battle in the Greek War of Independence was a popular subject for verse and prose but no work by Duval with that title has been identified. It is unlikely he was the naval officer who wrote the anonymous Navarine; Malta, and other poems (London, 1828). SR
