Biography:
Dutton, Warren (1774-1857: WBIS)
Born in East Haddam CT, son of Ebenezer and Phebe (Beebe) Dutton. He graduated from Yale in 1797 and was appointed Tutor first at Williams College and then at Yale, where in September 1800 he delivered the Master's Oration published as The Present State of Literature. He studied law in Boston while acting as editor of a Federalist newspaper, the Massachusetts Mercury. After being called to the bar in 1803 and establishing a successful legal practice, he married Elizabeth Cutts in 1806; they had three sons. He was elected to the State House of Representatives in 1811 and 1820, and in 1821 became a member of the State Senate. He died in the Boston suburb of Brighton and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery. (Dexter 5 [1911] 277-9; ancestry.com 3 Oct. 2018) HJ
