DUTTON, Timothy (1737-1814: findmypast.com)

The title-page of his 1811 Christmas Hymn identifies him as a resident of Northfield--i.e. Northfield MA, where the Duttons were a prominent family. There are conflicting accounts of his parentage but his gravestone gives his place and date of birth as Lebanon CT on 7 Jan. 1737. He certainly started in business in Connecticut; he moved to Northfield some time after 1794. His first wife was Martha Bartholomew (d 1802), whom he married at East Haddam CT on 1 Nov. 1758; they had six surviving children. His second wife was a widow, Tryphena Williams, married at Warwick MA on 7 Aug. 1802. They had three children together. He died at Northfield on 31 Aug. 1814.
