Biography:

DUNLAP, Jane, formerly HARRIS, later LIVERMORE (fl 1757-75)

According to the introduction in her one published collection of poems, she was a poor widow but "a Daughter of Liberty and lover of Truth" as well as a supporter of Methodist beliefs and values. From her "obscure station of life" she recalls Whitefield's preaching in Boston on his penultimate visit, 1763-5; she had not been able to hear the sermons of his final tour in 1770. No record has been found of her birth or parentage but when she married George Dunlap (or Dunlop) of Boston in Boston on 17 Apr. 1757 her place of origin was given as Milton MA and her first name variously as Jane or Jean. Her husband died on 7 Jan. 1771. On 16 Nov. 1775 she married again; her second husband was Deacon Jonathan Livermore of Northborough MA. No record of the date or place of death has been found.
