Author: Dunbar, John

Biography:

Dunbar, John (b c. 1797: ancestry.co.uk)

The Preface is dated from Greens, near Keith. If he was born at Keith, Moray (formerly Banffshire), he was likely the son of John Dunbar and Anne (Barber) Dunbar. There is no other reliable biographical information. The Preface thanks his “liberal subscribers” although there is no list of names. It describes the poet as “more accustomed to the Spade than to the Pen” and states that he is now about to leave his native land; some hints within the poems themselves indicate he may be emigrating to America. He may have written Rustic Rhymes (Aberdeen, 1834) but no copy of this book has been located and it is not included in the db.
