Biography:
DUCKETT, J. H. (fl 1824)
His book is dedicated to the naval commander, Edward, Lord Viscount Exmouth “by his lordship’s must humble and devoted servant.” Likely Duckett was also a naval man (possibly a surgeon: a John Henry Duckett, surgeon to a merchant ship, died in 1835), but no reliable biographical information has been located. The poem purports to be from a found manuscript, discovered in a Swiss mountain cabin where it had been left by a young Englishman, M----.
