DUCKETT, John Henry (c. 1800-34: Liverpool Mercury)
His book is dedicated to the naval commander, Edward, Lord Viscount Exmouth “by his lordship’s must humble and devoted servant.” Duckett was also a naval man, a ship's surgeon. No birth record has been located but he was said to be 34 when he died. He married Catharine Caroline Richmond at St. Paul's, Liverpool, Lancashire, on 26 July 1829; they had two children, including a son, George Richmond Duckett, who was born in 1833 but not baptised until 1836. Duckett died at Old Calabar (Nigeria), Africa, on 30 Nov. 1834. The death notice describes him as of the ship Agnes; he was "of great skill in his profession, and of considerable literary acquirements." His poem purports to be from a found manuscript, discovered in a Swiss mountain cabin where it had been left by a young Englishman, M----.
