Biography:
DOW, Hendricus (1761-1814: WBIS)
The son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Marsh) Dow, he was born and died in Ashford CT. After graduating from Yale in 1784, he studied theology, was licensed to preach in 1788, and served as minister successfully in the Fair Haven Church in New Haven from 1790 to 1792. He subsequently turned from the church to the law, was admitted to the bar in 1793, and practised law in Ashford for the rest of his life. He married Hannah Gilbert in 1792 and with her had three sons. (Dexter 3:337-8) HJ
