Author: Donaldson, Thomas
Biography:
DONALDSON, Thomas (fl 1809)
Donaldson’s book attracted a very respectable number of subscribers and the family of the Duke of Northumberland, to whom the book was dedicated by the printer, William Davison, took fourteen copies. Donaldson was a weaver from Glanton, Northumberland, and was known as Tam o’ Glanton. The book begins with several poems by his friends in praise of Donaldson’s verse. But nothing is known about his life and the name is too common to identify him with any certainty in the public records. Davison was a prominent bookseller, printer, engraver, and owner of a circulating library in Alnwick from 1802 to 1858. (BBTI; Goodridge) SR
