His first appearance in English public records is from 1807 when he was registered as a freeholder in Woking, Surrey. He was a widower when he married Harriet Baylis (b 1783) in St. Swithin’s, Worcester, on 8 Sept. 1817. They had three daughters and a son. The family was living in Goldworth, Woking, when he diedon 4 Dec. 1848 of "debility from old age"; he was buried at St. John the Baptist, Woking, on 11 Dec. His will left his property to his children. Harriet Donald died in 1849 and was buried on 26 June at St. John’s.
