Author: DIXON, Thomas

Biography:

DIXON, Thomas (fl 1781)

Although the title page of his book tells us that the author came from Bentham (Yorkshire) and had served in the horse guards, little more is known. Almost certainly he was the son of Roland Dixon and baptised in Ingleton, Yorkshire, on 16 Feb. 1740. His book is dedicated to Abram [Abraham] Rawlinson (1738-1803), MP for Lancaster 1780-90. The poem tells us that both of the author’s parents had died by 1781. Curiously, a new edition of his loco-descriptive poem was issued in 1994 by the Bentham Footpath Group.
