Author: Dixon, Joseph
Biography:
DIXON, Joseph (fl 1816)
His only recorded publication, a philanthropic Christian call for charity especially to "poor African and Asiatic strangers," first appeared as a publication of the Philadelphia Female Tract Society in 1816 as a pamphlet of 8 pages. It was taken up by other religious tract societies both in the US and in Britain, and is sometimes erroneously attributed to Legh Richmond (1772-1827). Dixon is described on the 1816 title-page as "a clergyman" but no more has come to light about him. HJ
