Biography:
DENISON, Henry (1796-1819: Columbian Lyre)
The son of Huldah (Palmer) and Judge Gilbert Denison, he was born at Guildford VT. His parents wanted him to study law and he entered the University of Vermont in 1812 where, finding his legal studies rather dry, he began writing poetry. In the winter of 1816-17, he sailed for Savannah GA, and went from there to Milledgeville GA, the seat of state government, to begin publishing a newspaper. He died there and his friends erected a monument to his memory. (“Biographical Sketch,” Columbian Lyre; ancestry.co.uk)
