Author: Delano, Stephen
Biography:
Delano, Stephen (1748-1822: Hollis)
Born in Dartmouth MA, in 1769 he married Mary Shaw, also of Dartmouth. Some time before 1773 the couple moved to Woodstock VT and bought a farm on Biscuit Hill. They had at least one son. Delano had a lively interest in politics and religion and contributed both verse and prose to local newspapers and magazines, reflecting his evolving (i.e. changing) views on both. He is said to have been "fond of controversy": his only other recorded separate publication is a self-published pamphlet on "the doctrine of limited election and reprobation." Later in life, they moved to Ohio, where both died of a fever. (Henry Swan Dana, History of Woodstock, Vermont [1889] 140-2; ancestry.com 26 Aug. 2018) HJ
