Biography:
DE WITT, Susan, formerly Linn (1778-1824: ancestry.com)
The daughter of Rebecca (Blair) Linn and her husband Rev. William Linn, she was born on 30 Oct. 1778 at Shippensburg PA. On 29 Oct. 1810 she married Simeon De Witt (1756-1834), a widower with six children. They went on to add four more. He was a successful surveyor who became the Surveyor-General of New York State and Chancellor of the State University. She published a novel, Justinia, in 1823 but Letters to Ada: from her Brother-in-Law, which is sometimes attributed to her, appeared a decade after her death and was the work of Charles Constantine Pise.
