Author: de Fleury, Maria
Biography:
de Fleury, Maria (fl 1773-91: ODNB)
Though her birth and death dates are not certain (most probably 1752-92), it is clear from her works that she was a Londoner of Huguenot descent; educated; a Dissenter; and a Protestant polemicist in verse and prose. In the 1780s, with the encouragement of the ministers of the churches she attended (and also of John Ryland), she became embroiled in controversies about the Gordon Riots and about the (allegedly) antinomian preacher William Huntington.
