Biography:
DE FLEURY, Maria (fl 1773-91: ODNB)
Though her birth and death dates are not certain (most probably 1752-92), it is clear from her works that she was a Londoner of Huguenot descent; educated; a Dissenter; and a Protestant polemicist in verse and prose. In the 1780s, with the encouragement of the ministers of the churches she attended (and also of John Ryland [1753-1825]), she became embroiled in controversies about the Gordon Riots and about the (allegedly) antinomian preacher William Huntington.
