DE BRENT, John (fl 1777)

It is quite possible that the name is a pseudonym. It is given as John de Brent M.A. on the title page of his one book but neither the various genealogical sites nor university admission records document the existence of any de Brents at this time. Searching for John Brent in the university records has also proven fruitless. The BL copy is said on the title page to be the third edition but no earlier editions—nor any other copies—have been located. Possibly the title poem (5 pages) had previously been published in a periodical. SR
