Biography:

DAVISON, John (1755?-89: ancestry.co.uk)

Very little is known about John Davison but the Rotherham antiquarian John Guest states that he originally came from Kirby Wiske, North Yorkshire, and was the gardener at the estate of Samuel Tooker (1737-1806), barrister and recorder, at Moorgate, Rotherham. He may possibly have been the John Davison, son of William Davison (mother’s name not given), who was baptised on 8 June 1755 at Burneston, North Yorkshire. Guest gives his date of death as 15 Aug. 1789, aged 34, which matches a burial record of 17 Aug. at All Saints, Rotherham. It is not known if he married. The Beautiful Situation of Rotherham, Display’d (1786) is his only known work.
