Author: Davison, A.
Biography:
DAVISON, A. (fl 1830)
The author’s identity is not known but almost certainly he (or she) lived in North Shields, Northumberland. The poem is said to be based on information from one of two survivors of a catastrophic shipwreck on 27 Nov. 1829 when the Shallet, bound from Shields to Odessa with a load of coal, went aground at Stony Binks, Spurn Point, near Hull. Newspaper reports give the captain’s name as Mason not Mayson as in the poem. (Newcastle Courant 5 Dec. 1829) SR
