DAVIES, William M. M. (fl 1832)
Nothing is known about the author of this book. The preface makes the usual excuses for the author’s “youth and inexperience” but reviewers were harsh; the Metropolitan Magazine said that the author “would have written well if he could.” Unusually the book was published in Ulverston, Lancashire, and possibly the author was the William M. Davies of Ulverston who was born in about 1812 and is recorded in the 1871 Census as an unmarried book-keeper. (Metropolitan Magazine 6 [1833]; ancestry.co.uk 24 June 2024) SR
