No public records have been located, but Alumni Oxonienses identifies him as the son of Thomas Davies of Llandaff, Glamorgan, Wales. He matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, on 1 Mar. 1737 at the age of eighteen (BA 1740, MA 1743). No record of his ordination has been found but he was vicar of Eglwysilan with Llanvabon, Glamorgan, from 1744 to 1756, and rector at Portskewett and Sudbrooke, Monmouthshire, from 1756 until his death on 3 July 1789. It is not known if he married. His poem was popular when it was first published and was reissued in 1952 and 1992. (Alumni Oxonienses; CCEd 27 June 2024)
