Biography:

CURTIS, William (fl 1820)

William Curtis of Annaghmore was a prominent landowner at Tullamore in County Offaly (formerly King’s County), Ireland. Little is known about his life but he married Susanna Rolleston, a daughter of James Ffranck Rolleston, at Killaloe, County Clare, in 1793. They had two sons and three daughters before Susanna’s death in late July or early Aug. 1810. He is recorded as commissioning extensive work to the Tullamore estate, draining moors and planting trees. Some of the verses in Poems celebrate the landscape of Annaghmore. Curtis died in Upper Baggot Street, Dublin, on 17 Dec. 1830; the newspaper record identifies him as "late of Annamore [sic]," suggesting that he had moved to Dublin.
