Author: Cummins, Edward
Biography:
CUMMINS, Edward (fl 1807)
His Miscellaneous Poetic Works (1808), which attracted a long list of subscribers, is dedicated to John Russell, Duke of Bedford and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. The dedication is signed from Granby Row, Dublin, on 5 Mar. 1807 when Cummins was fourteen. The preface indicates that there was some scandal attached to the publication when rumours were put about that the appeal for subscribers was false and Cummins intended merely to keep the money without issuing the book. Nothing more is known about Cummins and he seems not to have published anything else. O’Donoghue expresses surprise at the book’s apparent popularity and it does indeed seem likely that there was something untoward about its publication. (O’Donoghue) SR
