Author: Crow, William
Biography:
CROW [CRAW], William (1769-1816: ancestry.co.uk)
W. S. Crockett states that Craw and Crow refer to one individual. He was born at Chirnside, Berwickshire, to Ralph Craw and Janet (Idington) Craw, and became a stonemason. In 1796 he was pressganged into the navy and served on a man-of-war. If, as seems likely, Craw/Crow was the author of The Banks of the Hudson and The Indian, he must have visited America during his naval service. On his return to Scotland, he again worked as a stonemason. He was also a talented mathematician. He died at Ayr. (ancestry.co.uk 21 Sept 2018; MM) SR
