Crosby, William George (1805-81: ancestry.com)
He was born and died in Belfast ME, the son of Judge William Crosby and his wife Sally Davis. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1823, contributing a poem, "The Enthusiasm of Genius" to the Commencement exercises. After being admitted to the bar, he practised for a short time in Boston and then returned to Belfast to join his father's practice. In 1831, he married Ann Maria Patterson, with whom he had several children. He was later elected to the state legislature and served as Governor of Maine 1853-4.
