Biography:
CRIRIE, James (1752-1835: ancestry.co.uk)
He was born at Glasgow, the son of James Cririe and Janet (Clark) Cririe. He was a Doctor of Divinity and may have attended the University of Glasgow. He taught school at Wigtown and Edinburgh and, from 1801, was Minister at Dalton, Dumfriesshire. He married Janet Lennox on 15 Aug. 1800 at Kirkcudbright. Cririe died at Dalton on 5 Jan. 1835 and was buried in his parish. Robert Burns rated Cririe’s poetry very highly.
